Puisaye is an authentic countryside located in Burgundy, in the departments of Yonne
(Bléneau, Charny, Saint-Fargeau, Saint-Sauveur-in-Puisaye and Toucy), Nievre (Saint-Amand-in-Puisaye, northern part of the canton of Cosne-Course-sur-Loire) and of Loiret (canton of Briare and north-eastern part of the canton of Gien).
Its argillaceous basement explains one scrap-metal landscape of forests and ponds. The ferruginous sandstone is also a characteristic of Puisaye, which is found in the traditional habitat with ‘iron stone house’. The site of Guédelon uses this rock to build a castle with methods and knowledge of XIIIe century.
These natural resources explain two activities which have marked the economic history of “country” of Puisaye: exploitation of wood and pottery. Many ceramists potters still work in Puisaye, in particular in Saint-Amandin-Puisaye and the Bonny-on-Loire.
Several rivers cross Puisaye, Loing, Branlin and of Ouanne. It is a cattle-rearing area and grazing grounds, who was isolated very a long time. The habitat there was very dispersed.
This underdevelopment became an undeniable advantage, with intact landscapes, the authenticity of villages and habitat ; the Puisaye is located less than 90 minutes from Paris…
